Universal Account Number

You can use any of the following two methods to find your UAN number:

• Employer: You can know about your UAN by asking your employers. You can also find the UAN on your salary slip.
• UAN portal: If you could not get the Universal Account Number UAN from your employer, you can use the UAN portal to get UAN. Follow the steps given below to get the UAN through the portal:
  • Visit the UAN portal i.e. https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.
  • Click on the ‘Know Your UAN Status’ tab given on the right side of the page.
  • Enter all the details required on the next page such as the state and EPFO office, your name, date of birth, and captcha code.
  • Click on ‘Get Authorization Pin’ after entering all the required details.
  • You will receive the PIN on your registered mobile number. Enter the PIN and click on ‘Validate OTP and get UAN’.
  • You will receive the UAN no on your registered mobile number.  
     

You will need the following documents for obtaining a UAN:

• Bank details like branch name, IFSC code, account number, etc.
• Identity proof such as Aadhaar Card, Passport, Driving License, Voter ID, etc.
• Address proof mentioning your current address.
• Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card and Aadhaar Card.
• Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Card.

Follow the steps given bellow for UAN activation:

• Visit the EPFO portal, i.e. https://www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/.
• Click on ‘For Employees’ given under the ‘Our Services’ tab.
• Click on ‘Member UAN/Online Services (OCS/OTCP)’ given under the ‘Services’ section.
• Click on ‘Activate UAN’ on the next page.
• Enter your UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, and captcha details. 
• Click on ‘Get Authorization Pin’.
• You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. 
• Enter the OTP and check the disclaimer box before clicking on ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
• You will receive your UAN and password on your registered mobile number. Use these details to log in to the EPFO portal.

After activating the UAN, you can log in to the EPFO portal with your UAN as username and the new password created by you. After logging in to the portal, you can perform the following UAN services:

• Download your UAN card and passbook.
• View the status of PF linking and list of all member IDs.
• View the status of claiming PF transfer, file transfer claim & system generated transfer claim status.
• Edit your personal details like mobile number and email ID.
• Update your KYC information.
• Upload your KYC documents.
• View helpdesk contacts.

Following are the key features and benefits of the UAN:

• UAN helps your in keeping a track on how many times you have changed jobs.
• The EPFO was permitted to access bank and KYC details of an employee only after the introduction of UAN.
• UAN has helped in reducing the number of early withdrawals from the EPF scheme.
• UAN reduces the trouble of employers to go through the verification of employees.
• With UAN, EPF members can easily download their EPF statement by either using the EPFO portal or sending an SMS.
• Employers cannot withhold the EPF money of their employees due to UAN as employees can check regularly
• whether the employers have contributed their share of the money towards EPF or not.
• UAN meaning Universal Account Number has all Member IDs of the employee, making it is easier to access all the Member IDs.
• You can easily transfer the EPF amount online from the old Member ID to the new one with the help of the UAN.

Currently, the following facilities are provided by EPFO:

• Facility to download the UAN Card.
• Facility to download the UAN member passbook.
• Facility to view previous Member IDs. 
• Facility to enter KYC details.
• Facility to edit personal details.
• Facility to check eligibility for online transfer claim.

Since Diwali eve 2017, you can link your Aadhaar number with your UAN via the EPFO website, i.e. epfindia.gov.in. The steps to do the same are as follows:

• Visit the EPFO website and fo to the ‘eKYC Portal’ under ‘Online Services’ tab.
• Click on the 'Link UAN Aadhaar' option and enter your UAN to proceed further. 
• An OTP will be sent to your mobile number registered with UAN. Enter it at the appropriate space.
• After OTP verification, enter your Aadhaar Number. 
• You will get another OTP of you mobile/email linked with your Aadhaar.
• Once this OTP is verified and the UAN details match with your Aadhaar details, your UAN and Aadhaar get linked.
