American Express PAYBACK® Credit Card Benefits & Features
American Express PAYBACK credit card has the double benefit of rewards as a card member earns PAYBACK points from American Express, as well as PAYBACK Group.
PAYBACK Points: For every Rs 100 spent through American Express PAYBACK® credit card, a card member earns 2 PAYBACK points. An Amex PAYBACK credit card member can boost PAYBACK points on transacting at over 50 PAYBACK merchant partners.
PAYBACK points earned by transacting at PAYBACK merchant partners can vary from brand to brand and period to period. The quantum of PAYBACK points depends on the ongoing schemes under the PAYBACK Loyalty Program operated by PAYBACK Group.
A user can earn PAYBACK points on all transactions except for EMI conversions at Point of Sale, fuel purchases, insurance premium payments, cash withdrawals and utility bill payments.
Utility bills include gas, electricity and water, fuel purchases include CNG, petrol and diesel from oil marketing companies. Such transactions don’t accrue PAYBACK points irrespective the service providers are government-run agencies, municipal organisations, apartment associations and public housing societies.
Furthermore, American Express doesn’t offer PAYBACK points on any EMI conversions at merchant websites such as Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, etc and on any EMI transactions at merchant terminals of Croma retail outlets, whether it is a PIN transaction or Contactless payment from 15 March 2020, onwards.
Amex PAYBACK credit cardholders continue to earn PAYBACK points on all EMI conversions done through American Express® SafeKey and on all transactions that are converted into EMIs post full payments for the purchases.
Dining Benefit: All American Express PAYBACK® credit card customers are entitled for up to 20% discounts at dine-ins at select restaurants across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Fuel Surcharge Benefit: Amex PAYBACK® credit card provides exclusive fuel surcharge waivers to cardholders as card members can enjoy 0% fuel convenience fee on fuel purchases at refuelling stations operated by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). The benefit of fuel surcharge waiver is available for all transactions less than Rs 25,000, while a nominal convenience fee of 0.3% is levied per transaction for fuel purchases over and above Rs 25,000.

PAYBACK Online Catalogue: The PAYBACK points earned on Amex PAYBACK® credit card can be redeemed for multiple reward options from the PAYBACK Infinity Rewards e-Catalogue that has categories including instant vouchers, home & kitchen appliances, gift cards, etc. A card member can explore the whole catalogue at rewards.payback.in.
PAYBACK Partner Outlets: Users who prefer offline shopping experiences have the option to redeem PAYBACK points at the listed PAYBACK merchant partners in the city. You can simply provide PAYBACK details with the PAYBACK credit card in order to redeem the PAYBACK points at partner outlets and complete the purchase with PAYBACK points.
PAYBACK Online Partners: Online shoppers have the facility of redeeming the PAYBACK points through online merchant partners of PAYBACK. A credit card user is required to enter the PAYBACK details, select PAYBACK points as your payment options and complete the purchase directly with points.
Limited Loss Liability Benefit: American Express PAYBACK® credit card users have zero liability if the card is lost or stolen in India or abroad, provided the event is reported within three working days of the fraudulent activity. In case the event of fraud is reported after three working days, the maximum liability is limited to a maximum of Rs 1,000.
Amex Contactless Payments: American Express credit and charge cards are enabled for contactless payments. The transaction size is capped at Rs 5,000 for each contactless payment. Contactless payments through Amex PAYBACK credit cards are processed without entering the personal identification number (PIN).
American Express PAYBACK® Credit Card: Fees & Charges
- Supplementary Cards: The primary cardholder of Amex PAYBACK credit card can avail one supplementary card without incurring additional costs. American Express levies a fee of Rs 750 per supplementary card beyond the free quota of one.
- Late Payment Fee: American Express charges a fee of 30% on the outstanding balance, a minimum of Rs 500 and a maximum of Rs 1,000 on deferred bill payment of Amex PAYBACK credit card.
- Cash Advance Fee: Amex levies a transaction fee of 3.5%, a minimum of Rs 250 on all cash withdrawals through American Express PAYBACK® credit card. A fee of $129 is charged on international cash withdrawals through Amex PAYBACK credit card.
- Overlimit Fee: A flat fee of Rs 500 is charged if a card member executes a transaction beyond permissible limit as American Express approves a certain number of transactions that are over and above the sanctioned credit limit.
- Forex Transaction Fee: American Express levies a currency conversion fee of 3.5% for all foreign currency transactions processed through Amex cards.
- American Express charges Rs 100 per statement for retrieving credit card statements that are older than three billing cycles and a fee of Rs 250 per transaction if cheque/ECS/NACH is returned.
American Express PAYBACK® Credit Card: Eligibility Criteria
- Age: The age of the applicant should be 18 years or above and should be resident of India.
- Credit Score: The individual should exhibit a prime credit score, preferably over 750 with no history of defaults on repayments.
- Minimum Income Requirement: The personal annual income of the individual should be more than Rs 6 lakh p.a. Self-employed individuals are mandated to showcase a trading history for the firm of over 12 months.
- Banking Relationship: The applicant should have a savings or current bank account with any Indian or foreign bank operating in India.
