Yes. It is possible to view the EPF passbook online without UAN. There are various ways to view the passbook. 

Viewing the EPF passbook without UAN through Umang

You can download the Umang, a centralised mobile app of the Government through which the EPFO provides various services. Viewing the EPFO passbook is one of the services rendered. You will have to download the app from Google Playstore or App Store. EPF members can check their EPF balance and also download the passbook through this app. To activate the app, a one-time registration of the phone number will be required.

Viewing the EPF passbook without UAN through EPFO Portal

Follow the steps given below to view the EPF passbook through the EPFO portal.

• Access epfindia.gov.in.
• Tap on the option “Click here to know your EPF balance.’
• Choose the option ‘Member Balance Information’ when you are redirected to the link epfoservices.in/epfo.
• Choose the State of residence and the EPFO Office.
• You will then have to enter the PF number, name and the registered mobile number.
• Click on the ‘submit’ button to know your EPF balance.

Getting the EPF balance vide SMS

You can get the EPF balance without UAN through SMS. The SMS format for the EPF balance is EPFOHO UAN ENG (for English). Type and send it to 7738299899. The SMS service is available in various regional languages like Gujarathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, etc.

EPF members who have registered on the unified member portal and have an activated Universal Account Number can access the EPF passbook online. It is mandatory for new members and organisations to register on the unified member portal and obtain the UAN number. The EPF members can view the passbook only after 6 hours of registration to the portal.

However, EPF members without UAN numbers can also view the EPF passbook through Umang, the government app, and the EPFO portal and get the EPF balance through SMS.

It takes about seven days for any contribution made by the employer to the PF account to be posted in the member passbook. Any updation on the portal will be available for viewing only after 6 hours of updation.

You can download the EPF passbook online by following the steps given below:

• Access the EPFP website epfindia.gov.in.
• Go to the member passbook page.
• Log in by entering the UAN, password and the Captcha
• All the member IDs linked to the UAN will appear.
• Choose the member ID for which the EPF passbook is required from the dropdown menu.
• Now click on ‘View Passbook.’
• The passbook with all the details will appear on the screen.
• You can either take a print or download the passbook.

Yes. You can get the EPF passbook online with the date of birth and mobile number. You should go through the following process to download the passbook.

• Register for the e-passbook facility on the EPFO website by producing an identity card.
• You will get a PIN on the registered mobile number.
• Complete the registration process by entering the PIN on the EPFO website.
• You can then log in to the EPF member portal using the mobile number and the document number.
• Go to the ‘download passbook’ option.
• You will have to give details like PF office, name, PF code etc.
• The selected transaction should be confirmed by entering the PIN.
• The processing time for the EPF passbook is three days from the date of placing the request.

To activate the UAN online, you will have to go through the steps given below.

• Visit the EPFO website.
• On the homepage, choose the option ‘Our Services’
• Under ‘Our Services’, choose ‘For Employees’
• To reach the UAN portal, click on ‘Member UAN/Online Services’ under ‘Our Services’
• For UAN login, you will have to enter the UAN, mobile number and PF Member ID. After entering the Captcha, click on the ‘Get Authorisation PIN’ tab.
• Click on the ‘I Agree’ box under the disclaimer.
• You will get an OTP on the registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on Validate OTP and Activate UAN’ option.
• A password will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number after activation. This password should be used to access the EPF account.

UAN is a one-time permanent number and will continue throughout your career. There is no need to obtain another UAN.
